If you’re coming to Barbados, there’s a very good chance someone will tell you:

“You have to go to Oistins on a Friday night.”

And they’re right.

Oistins Fish Fry is one of those Barbados experiences that almost everyone hears about before arriving. Music, food, drinks, locals, visitors, smoke from the grills, and that Friday-night energy that makes the whole area feel alive.

But one question always comes up:

How much does it actually cost to enjoy Oistins?

So we decided to test it with $30 BDS.

That’s roughly $15 USD.

What We Found for $30 BDS

While walking around Oistins on a Friday night, we spotted something on a drinks menu that immediately caught our attention.

A rum punch served inside a fresh coconut for exactly $30 BDS.

At that point, there was really only one option.

We had to try it. 😂

And this wasn’t simply someone pouring a drink into a coconut.

There was a whole little show involved.

First, the coconut was opened with a machete.

Then the rum punch was mixed and shaken.

Finally, the drink was poured directly into the fresh coconut and handed over ready to drink.

Very Barbados. 🌴🥥🍹

And yes… it tasted pretty good too.

Is $30 BDS Expensive?

That depends on how you look at it.

You could obviously buy drinks for less in Barbados.

But at Oistins on a Friday night, you’re not only paying for the drink.

You’re also getting part of the experience.

The fresh coconut, the preparation, the atmosphere, the music, the crowds and the whole Oistins Friday-night vibe are part of it.

For $30 BDS / approximately $15 USD, we thought it was a fun thing to try once.

Would we buy five of them?

Probably not. 😂

Would we recommend trying one while experiencing Oistins?

Absolutely.

What Else Can You Expect at Oistins?

Oistins is much more than one rum punch.

Friday nights are especially busy, with food stalls serving grilled fish, chicken, sides and local dishes, plus bars, music and vendors throughout the area.

You can spend very little or turn it into a full night out depending on what you order.

That’s something we really like about Barbados: you can often adjust the experience to your budget.

You don’t necessarily need an expensive restaurant or organized excursion to have a memorable night.

Sometimes all you need is $30 BDS, a coconut and a guy with a machete. 😂

Our Tip for Visiting Oistins

Go with the expectation that it can get busy, especially on Friday nights.

Take your time, walk around before deciding where to eat or drink, look at the menus and enjoy the atmosphere.

And don’t be afraid to try something you weren’t planning to buy.

That’s exactly how we ended up drinking rum punch from a coconut. 🥥
